Preventive Pediatric Center: Screening Program Statistics (1989-Present)

The "Amerikos Argyriou" Preventive Pediatric Center has performed nearly 800,000 screenings on newborns and 280,000 on pregnant women since 1989. Foteini Tsiridou spoke to Cyprus Times about the importance of the programs.

The center offers free screening programs, such as the Prenatal Screening Program, the Newborn Screening Program, and the Newborn Hearing Screening Program.

Since 1989, 800,000 screenings have been performed on newborns and 280,000 screenings on pregnant women. The Hearing Screening Program has covered over 150,000 newborns, while the Newborn Screening Program has examined more than 320,000 newborns for inherited metabolic diseases. The Prenatal Screening Program has offered over 280,000 examinations to pregnant women.

In 2022, the Newborn Screening Program was expanded to cover eight new inherited metabolic diseases.

Foteini Tsiridou emphasized the importance of prevention and investing in health from the earliest stages.
