Kama muta, a feeling associated with being moved by love and connection with others, has been the subject of scientific research. The term, meaning "moved by love" in Sanskrit, was coined by Alan Fiske, a researcher at UCLA.

Studies in 19 countries showed that kama muta is a universal emotion, regardless of age and culture. Participants reported an increase in body temperature and a slowing of heart rate during the experience.

In the modern era, kama muta is used in marketing through touching videos and has even been used in political campaigns, such as the 2016 US presidential election.
