Mattel has introduced the first Barbie with autism, a new model in the Barbie Fashionistas line. The doll, designed in collaboration with the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, features characteristics such as a special articulation for self-stimulation movements, noise-canceling headphones, and a tablet.

Author Ellie Middleton, who has been diagnosed with autism and ADHD, stated that the doll's accessories reflect the needs of autistic individuals. A five-year-old autistic child, Penelope, also tested the doll.

The Barbie with autism joins a series of Mattel initiatives to promote inclusion, such as the Barbie with Down syndrome and the blind Barbie.
