April 8th: Name Day and Celebrations

Today, April 8th, the Orthodox Church commemorates the Holy Apostles Agabus, Asyncritus, Hermes, Herodion, Rufus, and Phlegon, as well as Saint Celestine, Pope of Rome, and the Martyr Pausilypus. However, there is no widely known name day being celebrated.

April 8th coincides with Holy Wednesday, a day dedicated to the sinful woman who anointed Jesus' feet with myrrh. In the afternoon, the Mystery of Holy Unction is performed.
