March 12: Name Day and Celebrations

Today, March 12, the Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of the saints Gregory of Rome, Theophanes the Confessor, Symeon the New Theologian, Phinehas the Just, and the Martyrs of Persia.
According to the name day calendar, those who bear the names: Theophanes, Fanis, Theophania, Fania, Fani, Fenia, Fanoula are celebrating.
One of the honored saints is Saint Theophanes, who was born in Ioannina in the early 16th century and practiced asceticism on Mount Athos. His biography mentions his actions as abbot and his contribution to the founding of the Monastery of the Taxiarchs near Naousa.
Also, March 12 is established as the World Day Against Cyber Censorship.
