Christian Church Celebrates Dormition of the Theotokos

Orthodox Christians celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos today. This feast, also known as the Summer Pascha, is one of the most important in Christianity.

In Cyprus, thousands of faithful are expected to visit churches and monasteries dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In Greece, the epicenter of the celebrations is the Panagia of Tinos. The events also have a national character, honoring the memory of the victims of the torpedoing of the warship Elli by the Italians on August 15, 1940.
