Filippidis Trial: Prosecutor Proposes Acquittal Due to Doubts in First Allegation

The prosecutor of the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal of Athens, Andreas Karaflos, proposed the acquittal of Petros Filippidis from the charge of attempted rape for the first accuser, citing doubts. The proposal for the second accuser will continue on July 1.

Prosecutor Andreas Karaflos stated that the court's decision should be based on certainty and not on probabilities of guilt, emphasizing that doubt is in favor of the accused. He also stressed that the credibility of the victim must be examined rigorously.

According to the prosecutor's description, the first accuser, a young actress, had met Petros Filippidis through lawyers and they met at the theater to discuss her possible participation in the play "O Bakalogatos". According to her testimony, Filippidis approached and touched her, but stopped when she reacted.

The prosecutor emphasized the fact that the complaint was made 11 years after the alleged incident and that there were no other witnesses. He also identified 38 points of inconsistency in the accuser's testimonies, including the lack of memory of the exact date of the incident.

Mr. Karaflos argued that the circumstances of the attempted rape are not clear, but possibly inappropriate sexual behavior, which, however, falls under offenses that have been time-barred.

The prosecutor concluded by proposing that the accused be acquitted due to doubts about the commission of the act.
