The mother of a 38-year-old with pulmonary insufficiency publicly denounced the HIO (Health Insurance Organisation) for the loss of a lung transplant due to the lack of an air ambulance for his transfer to Athens.

According to the complaint, despite being notified about a matching transplant on February 2nd, the delay in finding an air ambulance led to the loss of the transplant. The 38-year-old's mother stated that the family decided to move to Athens to be close to the hospital, as the HIO was unable to manage the patient's transfer.

The patient's mother emphasized the need for solutions, not apologies, as there are other patients facing similar problems. She also mentioned that the 38-year-old is the first case handled by the HIO after the transfer of the Patient Transfer Service abroad from the Ministry of Health.
