Veteran journalist Babis Rakis has passed away. The sad news was announced by the Cyprus Journalists' Union.

Babis Rakis died at the age of 93. He served journalism for decades in Cyprus and Australia. He worked for the newspaper "Haravgi", RIK, and collaborated with the newspapers "Neolaia" and "Ergatiko Vima" and the magazine "Nea Epochi".

He immigrated to Australia in 1975 and worked for the expatriate newspaper "O Ellinikos Kirykas" and the state radio station S.B.S. In recent years he resided in Pervolia, Larnaca.

Babis Rakis was involved in prose writing, publishing two collections of short stories and the novel "The Smyrniá of the Camp" in 2018.

His funeral will take place in Australia.

The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Journalists' Union expressed its condolences to the family of Babis Rakis.
