Veteran Journalist Babis Rakis Passes Away

Veteran journalist Babis Rakis has passed away at the age of 93, according to an announcement by the Cyprus Journalists Union.
Babis Rakis worked for decades in Cyprus and Australia. He was a member of the "Haravgi" newspaper and a collaborator of RIK, as well as the newspapers "Neolaia" and "Ergatiko Vima" and the magazine "Nea Epochi."
He immigrated to Australia in 1975, where he worked for the Greek community newspaper "O Ellinikos Kirykas" and the state radio station S.B.S. He returned to Cyprus in 2000 and resided in Pervolia, Larnaca.
Babis Rakis also engaged in prose writing, publishing two collections of short stories and the novel "The Smyrni of the Camp" in 2018.
His funeral will be held in Australia. The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Journalists Union expressed its condolences to his family.
