Valentine's Day: Love, Affection, and Spirituality

Valentine's Day prompts reflection on the meaning of love and its significance for mental well-being. From a psychotherapeutic perspective, love is an internal force linked to vitality and creativity.
Mental well-being does not depend solely on companionship. The quality of the relationship with oneself is a fundamental pillar of mental health. When love becomes a search to fill an internal void, it turns into dependence.
Love also has a spiritual dimension, as an existential experience of self-transcendence. In psychotherapy, many seek meaning within the relationship, an authentic encounter. When love encompasses values and responsibility, it can be one of the highest human experiences.
Love for life precedes the relationship. It is the ability to be moved, to care, and to nurture. Valentine's Day calls us to ask ourselves if we live with love and affection for life.
