Hospitals Overwhelmed: Waits Exceed 24 Hours in Emergency Rooms

Hospitals within the OKYpY system are facing immense pressure due to increased patient admissions, with waiting times in Emergency Departments (ED) exceeding 24 hours, according to complaints from PASYDY nurses.
The surge in seasonal infections, influenza, and pulmonology cases has led to full occupancy in hospital wards. Rapid Service Clinics are operating to alleviate pressure on the EDs, but the situation remains critical.
Panagiotis Savva, Secretary of the Nursing Branch of PASYDY, stated that ambulances were unable to unload patients for examination, despite efforts for better management. Charalambos Charilaou, Press Representative of OKYpY, called for patience, emphasizing that the organization has allocated a large number of beds.
Nurses are requesting assistance from the private sector and the postponement of non-emergency surgeries. Panagiotis Savva highlighted the suffering of patients in the EDs, while Charalambos Charilaou mentioned that postponing surgeries is not a viable solution.
Healthcare professionals are requesting a meeting of all stakeholders to find solutions.
