Sean Astin Elected President of SAG-AFTRA

Sean Astin, known for his role as "Sam" in "The Lord of the Rings", has been elected as the new president of SAG-AFTRA with 79% of the vote, succeeding Fran Drescher.

He takes over the leadership of the 160,000-member actors' union at a critical time for negotiations regarding artificial intelligence and streaming platforms.

Astin's election had a lower turnout, only 17%, but he received the support of the outgoing president and united two internal factions.

Michelle Hurd was elected secretary-treasurer. Astin has set priorities to strengthen protections against artificial intelligence and enhance transparency.
