The Ministry of Interior announced the approval of a new, fairer framework for the management of Turkish Cypriot properties. The aim is transparency, meritocracy, and equality among displaced persons.

The new regulations, approved by Parliament, introduce objective criteria for the granting of properties, limiting the discretion of the Minister of Interior. The financial and family status of applicants will be taken into account, as well as the property they own in the free or occupied areas.

Emphasis was placed on resolving problematic situations, such as in the Mackenzie area of Larnaca, where revenues increased by 15% after the signing of new lease agreements. Contract audits revealed 511 violations, for which legal measures are being taken.

In addition, rents for Turkish Cypriot commercial properties are being adjusted, with characteristic examples of increases in Limassol and Larnaca. Overdue debts of €1.3 million were collected, and measures are being taken for debts of €3.3 million.

The Ministry thanked the Parliament, the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service, and the Pancyprian Refugee Association for their cooperation.
