Cyprus Committed to Remaining Reliable Partner, says Defense Minister

Defense Minister Vassilis Palmas stated that Cyprus wishes to remain a reliable and stable partner for its allies, both regionally and internationally, with the primary goal of ensuring the security and prosperity of its people.
In his address at the annual assembly of the Cyprus Army Officers Association, Mr. Palmas highlighted the government's investments in deepening collaborations with friendly countries and supporting European initiatives in the fields of defense and security.
He made particular reference to the European Union's SAFE tool, which provides opportunities to cover the defense needs of member states, as well as the implementation of armaments programs.
Mr. Palmas expressed the state's appreciation for the officers of the National Guard and referred to efforts to improve infrastructure, strengthen operational means, and upgrade technological support.
Furthermore, he mentioned the readjustment of organizational positions for Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and Contract Soldiers in the supplementary budget of 2025, as well as efforts to transform the institution of Contract Soldiers.
Finally, he referred to the approval of insurance coverage and allowances for members of the Army performing hazardous duties, as well as the establishment of a sailing allowance for members of warship crews.
