The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, described the Greek assistance with the dispatch of Greek F-16s and frigates as "one of the most important developments in the history of the Republic of Cyprus," in statements to SKAI.

He said that the attacks that have occurred so far in Cyprus concern exclusively the British bases and mainly originate from Lebanon.

Mr. Christodoulides stated that reinforcements were requested in specific areas and there was an immediate response after a telephone communication with Kyriakos Mitsotakis and an understanding between the defense ministries of the two countries.

Regarding protection measures, he said that Cyprus has its own defense systems, which have been upgraded, and there is also the protection of British forces. In addition, he emphasized the strong cooperation with European countries and communication with European institutions.

Referring to the possibility of a ballistic attack from Iran, Mr. Christodoulides said that nothing can be ruled out, as in many cases the target is Israel and the missiles pass through the area.

Finally, regarding the possibility of Cyprus joining NATO, Mr. Christodoulides said that if it were possible, the Republic of Cyprus would submit a relevant application, but this is not possible due to the political conditions and Turkey's position.
