Christodoulides: Austria is a valuable partner within the EU

President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized that Austria is a reliable and valuable partner within the European Union, sharing common approaches with Cyprus. The statements were made at the Presidential Palace during an official visit by Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker.

Mr. Stocker noted that Cyprus is an important partner and expressed his desire to continue bilateral relations. The two leaders expressed their intention to develop relations further in the areas of economy, migration, tourism, education, energy and security.

The Chancellor referred to "innovative initiatives" by Cyprus regarding the return of refugees and asylum seekers. President Christodoulides recalled Austria's contribution to the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus for over 60 years, as well as Austria's support during the Turkish invasion in 1974.

Issues such as Cyprus' accession to the Schengen area, strengthening EU relations with countries in the region, and the situation in Ukraine were also discussed. Mr. Stocker expressed Austria's support for the reunification of Cyprus.

Answering a question on migration, President Christodoulides stressed that migration is a European problem that needs European solutions.
