Parliament: Audit of KOA on Leases and Federation Autonomy

The Parliamentary Committee on Institutions discussed the management of property leases of the Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA), in light of a police investigation and recommendations from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.
Members of Parliament stressed that the autonomy of sports federations does not mean unchecked power, calling for transparency and accountability. Independent MP, Alexandra Attalidou, spoke of "prolonged dysfunction" and practices that raise issues of legality.
Committee Chairman, Dimitris Dimitriou, questioned the control of the CFA, while Giorgos Loukaidis referred to millions of euros in sponsorships to clubs and the need for purification and transparency.
Yiannis Ioannou, President of KOA, said that an investigation into the leases had begun and that there were payment delays. Stella Michaelidou, State Aid Control Commissioner, stressed the importance of complying with the terms for state aid to the Limassol stadium, referring to payment delays from the teams.
Representatives of the Police and the Legal Service referred to the progress of the investigations, while the Audit Office left open the possibility of further audits.
