Vasilis Palmas: Cyprus Opposes Turkey's Participation in SAFE

Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas reiterated the Republic of Cyprus's opposition to Turkey's participation in the European Union's SAFE program. The statement was made during meetings with European officials in Brussels.
In statements to RIK, following meetings with European Commissioner for Defence Andrius Kubilius and the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, Mr. Palmas stressed that a country that threatens and occupies the territory of an EU member state cannot be strengthened.
Referring to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency, Mr. Palmas pointed out that Defence and Security issues are high on the agenda, stressing the need for the EU to rely fully on its own forces. The possibility of creating a 'wall against drones' in response to Russian attacks was also discussed.
