Tsiaras: Call for Dialogue with Farmers
Share on:

Minister of Rural Development and Food, Kostas Tsiaras, has issued a new call for dialogue with farmers amidst escalating mobilizations.

Mr. Tsiaras emphasized that there is no room for a new package of financial aid, as an "unthinkable and huge cycle of payments" has already been completed. He mentioned that the payment of 180 million euros remains and recalled the interventions for 100% compensation, reduced agricultural electricity, and tax-free oil.

The minister described the closure of roads as "deviant behavior" but noted that the government avoided imposing fines, demonstrating a willingness to find a solution. He expressed his readiness to go to the roadblocks to meet with the farmers, provided there is a sincere willingness for dialogue.

Referring to OPEKEPE, Mr. Tsiaras acknowledged the delays in payments as a result of the reform.

Finally, he reiterated his unwavering position on the vaccination of sheep and goats for smallpox, stressing that this is a decision based on scientific data.
