Three bills concerning the licensing of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) will be brought before the Plenary of the Parliament, following the completion of their review by the Parliamentary Committee on Energy.

Among them is the amendment to the Consumer Protection Law of 2025, to align with Directive (EU) 2023/2673.

Additionally, a bill proposed by MPs Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, Nikos Sykas, Michalis Yakoumi, and Stavros Papadouris is under consideration, concerning the conditions and duration of license extensions or exemptions from the obligation to hold a license from the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority for electricity generation or energy storage facilities. The Committee awaits amendments on technical issues.

Michalis Yakoumi stated that the aim is to transition to first ready, first served practices for RES projects.

The third bill concerns the amendment of the basic law for the installation of photovoltaic systems for self-consumption on canopies of public or private parking areas, under conditions to be determined by the Ministry of Interior.

Kyriakos Hatzigiannis emphasized the effort to accelerate the penetration of renewable energy sources.
