The 24th AKEL Congress focused on statutory changes, including the election of the general secretary directly by the delegates. Stefanos Stefanou was elected general secretary with 781 votes.

Out of 1000 delegates, only 810 participated in the voting. 29 voted negatively.

The new Central Committee increased to 120 members. 1/3 of the members are elected for the first time, with an average age of 48 years and the percentage of women reaching 23%. No data was provided for paid members.

In the vote for the Central Committee, G. Loukaidis received 751 votes and Stefanos Stefanou 744. Giorgos Koukoumas rose to third place with 743 votes. Aristos Damianou recorded a drop to tenth place.

The Central Committee will elect the new Political Bureau and the Secretariat on July 1st.
