Christodoulides-Mitsotakis Meeting Focuses on Electricity Interconnection

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, reaffirming the excellent bilateral relations.

According to a joint statement, N. Christodoulides briefed K. Mitsotakis on developments in the Cyprus issue and the upcoming meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader under the UN Secretary-General on September 27.

Emphasis was placed on the electricity interconnection between Greece and Cyprus, with both governments stating their commitment to implementing this strategic project. The President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council also support the project.

The two leaders agreed on specific steps to complete the project, as reported by RIK's correspondent in New York, Andreas Pafitis.

President Christodoulides also briefed the Greek Prime Minister on the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union and discussed the themes of the upcoming Cyprus-Greece Intergovernmental Summit in Greece in November.
