Share on:

AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou has called on President Nicos Christodoulides to immediately convene a meeting of political forces and agricultural organizations to address the issue of foot-and-mouth disease.

In a written statement, Mr. Stefanou stated that the European Commissioner rejected Cyprus' request for an exemption from the EU protocol regarding mass animal culling. "We call on the President of the Republic to convene a meeting of political forces together with agricultural organizations to discuss how to deal with the situation," he emphasized.

Mr. Stefanou warned that mass animal culling would have devastating consequences for livestock farming, the economy, and society. "The situation is extremely difficult and we must act collectively, dynamically, and effectively," he concluded.
