A 54-year-old Air Force officer has been suspended and charged with espionage for allegedly spying for China. The commander of the 128th Squadron is accused of acting for at least 18 months, leaking vital information to Beijing.

The case was uncovered by the EYP (Greek Intelligence Service) in cooperation with foreign intelligence agencies. Reportedly, the officer confessed to his actions, revealing details about his handler in China.

An investigation is underway to determine if there were any accomplices. The officer faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

This development is a direct application of the law on the New Structure of the Armed Forces, which allows for the suspension of officers facing felony charges.
