Cyprus President Presents Proposal on Bases to Starmer: 'Not for Offensive Operations'

The President of Cyprus had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, during which he presented a proposal regarding the British bases in Cyprus. The British Prime Minister assured that the bases 'will not be used in offensive operations'.
During the conversation, President Christodoulides emphasized the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also informed the Prime Minister about the need to take a coordinated initiative to de-escalate the crisis, in cooperation with partners.
The British Prime Minister agreed and referred to the joint statement by the United Kingdom with other countries regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding the British Bases in Cyprus, President Christodoulides presented a specific proposal to start discussions. The British Prime Minister reiterated that the security of the Republic of Cyprus is fundamental to the United Kingdom and that the Bases will not be used in offensive operations.
The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact.
