Former President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, in a speech in Corinth, referred to the 200 years since the Heroic Exodus of Messolonghi.

Mr. Pavlopoulos emphasized that the Exodus of Messolonghi should be a timeless source of inspiration for fulfilling the national duty.

He referred to the history of Messolonghi, noting that every corner of this place is a piece of a glorious past. He spoke about Pleuron, a city mentioned in the works of Homer, and the establishment of a Venetian sub-consulate in Messolonghi in 1726.

The former President referred to the siege of Messolonghi in 1822 and the heroic exodus of 1826, emphasizing the importance of sacrifice for the success of the National Revolution of 1821.

Finally, he stressed the need for unity and solidarity, inspired by the 'Free Besieged' of Dionysios Solomos.
