Hafzal Khan Resignation: Reactions and Pressure over Visits to Occupied Territories
Share on:

Hafzal Khan, trade envoy to Ankara and Labour MP, was forced to resign following pressure regarding an illegal trip to the occupied territories. The visit and photos with Ersin Tatar sparked reactions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diaspora, and the pro-Cypriot lobby exerted pressure on the British government. The diaspora, with over 300,000 members, is considered a significant force for intervention.

In the past, the Turkish lobby offered incentives, such as Greek Cypriot-owned homes, to British politicians for support. Dennis MacShane mentioned that right-wing MPs acquired free villas in northern Cyprus.

In 2024, five members of the British Parliament were investigated for undeclared trips to the occupied territories. A campaign is proposed in Khan's constituency to expose his misdeed.
