Uganda: Yoweri Museveni Secures 7th Term in Office
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has been re-elected for a 7th term amid reports of a climate of fear.
Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, was declared the winner of the presidential election after a process marred by arrests and abductions. African observers reported that these actions created a climate of fear.
The 81-year-old Museveni secured 71.65% of the vote, according to the final results announced by the electoral commission, extending his nearly 40-year rule, relying on control of state mechanisms and security services.
