Olguin Focuses on Roadblocks, Five-Party Meeting Doubtful

The prospect of holding a five-party conference on the Cyprus issue in New York in February is uncertain. Despite the efforts of MarĂa OlguĂn, disagreements persist.
Tufan ErhĂĽrman stated that he would not participate in negotiations without an agreement on the methodology, insisting on political equality. His statements caused reactions, even from the Turkish Cypriot press.
The United Nations seems to be emphasizing Confidence Building Measures, with a possible discussion on opening roadblocks such as Mia Milia, Louroutzina, Athienou, and Ledra Street in old Nicosia. Olguin is expected to meet with the negotiators to assess the prospects for an agreement.
