Local Government Reform: Pissouri & Pools Under Scrutiny

The Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs concluded its discussion on the reform of Local Government. Committee Chairman, Άριστος Δαμιανού, stated that there is consensus on most issues, with pending matters regarding the responsibilities of deputy mayors and increases in local authority pricing up to 2025.

Additionally, the regulation of swimming pools was discussed, aiming to streamline licensing and controls. The bills are expected to be brought before the Plenary of Parliament on July 10.

Regarding the problems in Pissouri due to land subsidence, a new study with expertise from 6 countries has been completed. The study will be reviewed by an inter-ministerial committee on the 30th of this month. The issue of compensation for residents is also being examined.

DISY MP, Νίκος Σύκας, emphasized the importance of the institution of deputy mayor and the need to resolve the problems in Pissouri. Pissouri Community Leader, Παναγιώτης Μαυρουδής, referred to the need for coordination of government departments to address the problem.
