Lottides: Immediate Consultation with Disability Organizations

Commissioner of Administration and Human Rights Protection, Maria Stylianou-Lottides, recommends immediate and timely consultations with disability organizations on decisions concerning people with disabilities.

The recommendation followed a complaint by the Cyprus Paraplegic Organization (O.PA.K.) against the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare regarding consultation on the new legislation for people with disabilities.

Ms. Lottides recommends that the Deputy Ministry and other state services involve other representative organizations, besides KY.S.O.A., directly and promptly in consultations to contribute to policy-making.

The Deputy Ministry is expected to inform O.PA.K. about the draft bill "the Social Participation, Inclusion and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities Law of 2025" and ensure O.PA.K.'s participation in future consultations.

The report was submitted to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare and communicated to the Director of the Department of Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
