The Minister of Interior, Theodoros Livanios, presented the government's proposed changes to Local Government, with an emphasis on the potential introduction of electronic voting in the 2028 local elections.

According to Mr. Livanios, the creation of 400 digital polling stations across the country is being considered, where voters will use tablets instead of ballot papers. This proposal aims to simplify the process and increase participation in the elections.

He also mentioned the abolition of the second round in local elections. The election will be held with 42%, and if this percentage is not achieved, the second alternative vote will be taken into account.

Mr. Livanios also referred to the implementation of postal voting in the European elections and New Democracy's proposal to establish it in national elections as well, through constitutional revision.

Finally, he referred to the changes being considered for voters residing away from their registered municipality, with the aim of creating polling stations per island or large municipality, as well as the meritocratic selection of executives in the public sector through a written electronic competition by ASEP.
