Nicosia: Fugro Gauss Conducts Research in Cypriot EEZ

Cypriot government sources reported that the vessel Fugro Gauss is conducting research in the Cypriot EEZ for the laying of a fiber optic cable. This is a regional project involving Greece, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

Turkey issued an antinavtex, reiterating its claims in the Eastern Mediterranean, but there has been no complaint of obstruction of the research. The authorities of Cyprus are in constant communication with the ship and will take action in case of obstruction.

A notice to mariners (navtex) has been issued by the competent authorities of the Republic of Cyprus, which remains in effect until August 16.
