Letybiotis: Caution Advised in Occupied Areas After Unlawful Detention

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letybiotis stated that the continued detention of five Greek Cypriots in the occupied areas constitutes a violation of human rights. The Republic of Cyprus is intensifying diplomatic efforts at the United Nations and European Union levels to secure their release.
Mr. Letybiotis emphasized the lack of legal basis for the detention and condemned the disregard for legality by Turkey and the occupying regime. He also advises citizens to exercise caution when traveling to the occupied areas.
The activation of legal remedies against Turkey, including proceedings before the ECHR, is under consideration. The Republic of Cyprus reiterates the need to respect the rights of citizens of the RoC and the EU.
