Cyprus: Tatar Seeks to Exclude EU Commission from Five-Party Summit
Share on:

Discussions intensify regarding the participation of the Commission in the five-party conference on Cyprus. A meeting between Maria Angela Holguín and Johannes Hahn will take place tomorrow, ahead of the two-day summit starting on July 16.

Ersin Tatar seeks to limit the involvement of the European Union in the discussions, arguing that the EU operates biasedly in favor of the Greek Cypriot side. The summit will be held in New York under the auspices of António Guterres, with the participation of the leaders of the two communities, the foreign ministers of Greece and Turkey, and the UK's Europe minister.

The Turkish side seeks to promote its own proposals for changing the form of a solution, while the EU supports the agreed framework for a solution, respecting the decisions of the UN Security Council.
