Cypriot MEPs strongly criticized the European Union's stance on the crisis in the Middle East during a debate in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

Michalis Hatzipantelas (DISY, EPP) thanked the countries that supported Cyprus, stressing that Cyprus' security is the EU's security.

Giorgos Georgiou (AKEL, European Left) stressed that European solidarity was offered individually and not institutionally, calling on the EU to stand up and give space to diplomacy.

Geadis Geadis (ELAM, European Conservatives and Reformists) underlined the need to shield Cyprus and the lack of reaction to the illegal Turkish F16s in the occupied territories.

Costas Mavrides (DIKO, European Socialists) denounced the lack of reference to the Turkish occupation and the deployment of F16s in Cyprus by the EU.

Fidias Panagiotou (Independent) criticized the EU's selective application of international law and the lack of condemnation of US and Israeli attacks against Iran.
