Ioannou: Refugee Policy Open to Suggestions

Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, assured that the Ministry's services are open to new suggestions for upgrading the refugee policy. The statement was made at a discussion organized by AKEL Famagusta in Larnaca.
Mr. Ioannou emphasized the importance of continuously seeking solutions for refugees due to the Turkish occupation. He also referred to efforts to ensure meritocracy and equality among the displaced, as well as the amendments that have been promoted to strengthen support for the refugee community.
The Minister referred to the reform of the management of Turkish Cypriot properties and addressing abuses in the Mackenzie area of Larnaca. He also mentioned the housing plans of the Welfare and Rehabilitation Service for Displaced Persons and the "kτίΖΩ" Plan.
Giorgos Loukaidis, Parliamentary Representative of AKEL, advocated for a radical re-establishment of the refugee policy and submitted proposals for a new housing policy.
Nikos Kettiros, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees, referred to the issue of foreclosures of refugee homes.
Andreas Vyras, President of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, stressed the need for dignity and transparency in refugee policy.
