Germany: Why it won't send military aid to Cyprus

Berlin will not send military support to Cyprus for practical reasons, according to government sources. Although there had been an expression of intent to help, the equipment that Germany can provide immediately does not meet the current needs of the Republic of Cyprus.
The needs for deterrence and surveillance systems are covered by equipment that has already arrived or is expected to arrive on the island. Furthermore, sending aid from Germany on missions outside NATO/the United Nations requires prior approval from the German parliament, a time-consuming process.
Regarding possible assistance from Italy, a discussion has been scheduled in the Italian parliament on this issue.
