Fytiris: Obligation to Respond to Israel's Request for Aykut

The Minister of Justice and Public Order, Kostas Fytiris, stated that the Republic of Cyprus is obligated to comply with the convention for the transfer of convicts, regarding Israel's request for Simon Aykut.

Simon Aykut has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for the misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties. Mr. Fytiris mentioned that Israel recognizes the misappropriation of properties and has issued a travel advisory to its citizens.

Mr. Fytiris noted that Aykut's remaining sentence is 6-8 months and failure to respond to the request will have repercussions.
