Farantouris: Identical Interests of Greece-Cyprus for EEZ

MEP Nikolas Farantouris emphasized the identical interests of Greece and Cyprus ahead of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU in 2026, calling for the delimitation of an EEZ.

In his statement, Mr. Farantouris stressed the need to promote strategic projects such as the electricity interconnection and the East Med pipeline. He also expressed hope that Greece would assume the EU presidency in 2027 with greater confidence in national issues.

The MEP noted that Cyprus, by assuming the presidency, will have the opportunity to set the agenda and coordinate the work of the Council. He also stressed the importance of supporting the decisions of the Republic of Cyprus and promoting projects that upgrade Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Mr. Farantouris reiterated his support for the delimitation of an EEZ between Greece and Cyprus, emphasizing the need for coordination between the two countries.
