ESIEA Stands by Angelos Provolisianos After Criticism from Elena Akrita

ESIEA (Journalists' Union of Athens Daily Newspapers) has expressed its support for journalist Angelos Provolisianos, following public criticism he received from SYRIZA MP Elena Akrita. The criticism concerned a political backstage article signed by Provolisianos in the Documento newspaper.
In a statement, ESIEA disapproves of the expressions used by Elena Akrita, emphasizing that politicians should show greater tolerance for criticism. The Union referred to a letter from Angelos Provolisianos, in which he requested ESIEA's intervention regarding the characterizations used by the MP.
ESIEA stressed that the journalist was targeted via a social media post because he signed a political backstage article with his initials (A.P.). The Union described this practice as widespread and stressed that journalists present news and convey reports, which can sometimes be displeasing.
The reason for Elena Akrita's criticism was a political commentary titled "Language does not communicate with the mind," which concerned Sokratis Famellos.
