Commissioner Brunner: Positive Schengen Report for Cyprus

The European Commission is expected to adopt the Schengen evaluation report for Cyprus in the spring, according to European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner. The Commissioner confirmed that Cyprus has made significant progress towards joining the Schengen area.

Mr. Brunner emphasized that illegal border crossings have decreased by more than half compared to 2023. The EU is supporting Cyprus with €290 million for the period 2021-2027.

During its EU Presidency, Cyprus is expected to contribute to the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum. In 2025, irregular border crossings to Cyprus decreased by 62%.
