Judges' Association Opposes New Code of Civil Procedure

The Hellenic Judges and Prosecutors Association has expressed its opposition to the new Code of Civil Procedure, calling it 'catastrophic.' In a statement, the Association points out that the bill 'creates an uncontrolled situation in Justice' and that 'this whole project will end in a fiasco to the detriment of citizens who resort to the courts.'

The Hellenic Judges and Prosecutors Association is convening an extraordinary Board meeting to discuss the issue.

According to the Association, the Ministry of Justice is exclusively interested in 'fast track procedures and not in substantive judicial judgment.' It also expressed concerns about the deadlines and disciplinary regulations proposed in the new Code.

The Judges' Association raised the issues during the meeting of the European Association of Judges in Yerevan on May 9.
