Shelter Suitability Checks to be Conducted Every Six Months

The Minister of Interior stated that shelter suitability checks will be conducted every six months. Konstantinos Ioannou mentioned that in previous years, checks were carried out on a sample basis due to the understaffing of the Civil Defence.
Mr. Ioannou emphasized that a specific team will be assigned to check the shelters every six months and that efforts to increase the number of available shelters will continue. In this context, a meeting was held with representatives of the church, retail trade, and hoteliers to utilize underground spaces.
Also, Mr. Ioannou noted that the bill for the creation of a National Civil Protection Mechanism should be voted on as soon as possible by the Parliament, so that there is timely preparation for crisis management. All involved services will be coordinated by the National Mechanism.
The inclusion of the Department of Forests in the mechanism is also being evaluated, while the autonomy of Ambulances is being discussed.
