Teacher Unions Request Meeting with President over Permanent Positions

Teacher unions OELMEK, OLTEK, and POED are requesting an urgent meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, within days, to discuss the implementation of the agreement regarding permanent positions. The decision was made during an emergency joint meeting on Monday.
The unions will reassess the situation next Friday and are considering all possible measures, including strike action. POED President Myria Vasiliou stated that the non-implementation of the second part of the agreement is a red line.
OELMEK President Dimitris Taliadoros emphasized the need to adhere to the agreement and expressed disappointment over the Ministry of Education's failure to submit a supplementary budget for 2025. OLTEK President Panagiotis Lysandrou referred to the teachers' work-related stress and the impact on the quality of public education.
