EU Condemns Detention of Greek Cypriots in Occupied Territories

The European Parliament has condemned the detention of five Greek Cypriots in the occupied territories, calling the arrests politically motivated. It demanded their immediate and unconditional release, recalling that the EU recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus.
The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority, stressing that the ongoing occupation constitutes a serious violation of international law and an obstacle to peace. Access to medical care for the detainees was also requested.
The responsible Commissioner stressed that the EU cannot tolerate violations of the rights of its citizens and that the detention must end immediately, sending a warning to Turkey and its proxies.
The text also refers to resolutions on Ukraine and Moldova, emphasizing the importance of solidarity without compromise and consistency in votes.
