The Cyprus Patient Associations Federation (OSAK) has issued a clarifying statement regarding its positions on the debated bill concerning the operation of radiodiagnostic centers.

The statement emphasizes that OSAK has submitted a memorandum to the House of Representatives, aiming to ensure patient safety and the quality of health services.

OSAK considers the physical presence of a doctor during the operating hours of the centers necessary, depending on the type of examination. The presence of a radiologist is deemed necessary in specialized diagnostic procedures such as CT and MRI scans, interventional procedures under radiological guidance, and the administration of medications.

OSAK recalls that it supported the possibility of the physical presence of a doctor of another specialty to address any complications. It notes that in diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound, the examination must be performed by a radiologist.

The responsibility for the correctness of the referral, the quality of the diagnostic report, and patient safety lies with the radiologist. In low-risk imaging examinations, such as simple X-rays, the physical presence of a radiologist is not necessary, but the evaluation and supervision remain the responsibility of the radiologist.
