Protests Outside Parliament Against Assembly Bill

A protest took place outside Parliament with the support of PEO, against the bill on public gatherings and parades. Protesters expressed concerns about the weakening of the right to protest and the increase in police violence.
The organizers' statement mentioned a global trend of weakening the right to protest, increasing police violence and repression. Reference was also made to incidents of intimidation and arbitrary arrests by members of the Police in Cyprus.
Christos Tombazos, from PEO, questioned the need to regulate the right to demonstrate, and also referred to the events in Chloraka and Limassol.
The protesters called on Members of Parliament to vote against the bill and to ask the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police to be held accountable for the actions of the police during protests.
