Protest Outside Parliament for the Right to Protest

A protest took place outside Parliament on Thursday by citizens and organizations, supported by PEO, for the right to protest. The reason was the bill on public gatherings and parades.
Protesters denounced a global trend of weakening the right to protest, increasing police violence, and attempting to silence opposing voices. They referred to incidents of intimidation and unjustified arrests in Cyprus.
Christos Tombazos, from PEO, questioned the necessity of the bill and referred to the events in Chloraka and Limassol, arguing that they were not due to the absence of a regulatory framework.
The organizers called on Members of Parliament to vote against the bill and demand explanations from the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police for the abuses.
